The Name, The Vision
The creation of Gartley Studios, headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, pays homage to Founder and CEO Jane Galluzzi’s family legacy of leadership and innovation.
Jane Galluzzi is committed to making film education freely available and hopes to one day secure classrooms in Gartley Hall at the University of Hawaii Mānoa Campus, which is named after her ancestor, Alonzo Gartley. She envisions establishing a university film department at no financial cost for students, thereby re-establishing the original principles on which the building was founded.
Gartley Hall was established during a time when the school was free for students, thanks to support from the federal government and the community. The building initially housed the "Sugar Cane Engineering" department but has since changed hands, now accommodating the "Center for Aging, Thompson School" and the "Social Work and Public Health" programs.
Alonzo Gartley was a prominent figure in Hawaiian history, serving as the Chairman of the first Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii. He was a Founder of multiple medical institutions, including Children’s Hospital (now Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children) and Queens Hospital (now The Queen’s Medical Center), as well as a former Manager of both the Hawaiian Electric Company and C. Brewer. His diverse contributions also include founding and serving as the first President of the Hawaiian Engineering Association, developing the Pink Agnes Galt Hibiscus, and establishing himself as a well-known landscape photographer, with much of his work preserved in the Bishop Museum archival collection.
Gartley Studios continues this powerful family legacy of pioneering institutions and creative leadership through its core mandate: philosophical innovation in filmmaking. Our commitment is to produce media that transcends mere entertainment, acting instead as a catalyst for deep societal engagement. By using the dynamic language of film, we aim to challenge established viewpoints, inspire introspection in every viewer, and foster a new era of dialogue that directly contributes to positive cultural evolution.
